Worship & Liturgical Ministries
The services are not a performance with an audience. They are the work of the whole assembly, and a number of parishioners have a particular part in carrying them.
The worship of the Orthodox Church is the centre of parish life. Members of our community serve in a number of ways during the Divine Liturgy and the other services, helping the parish offer its worship with prayer, reverence and good order.
Chanters & Choir
Church music is an integral part of Orthodox worship. The chanters and choir lead the congregation in the hymns and responses of the Church, helping the faithful take part in the prayer of the services.
At the Nativity, our chanters and choir also proclaim the appointed Scripture readings during the services.
Anyone interested in serving through church music is encouraged to speak with the priest or with a member of the choir.
Altar Servers
Altar servers, also called acolytes, assist the clergy during the Divine Liturgy and the other services of the Church. Their service may include carrying candles and processional items, assisting with the censer, preparing for entrances and processions, and helping to maintain the reverence and good order of worship.
Serving in the Holy Altar is both a responsibility and an opportunity to grow in attentiveness, in prayer, and in participation in the liturgical life of the Church.
At the Nativity, altar service is for boys and young men. Anyone interested should speak with the priest: whether someone may serve in the altar is his to say, and the parish office will arrange the conversation.
