Our Parish History

Nativity of the Theotokos Greek Orthodox Church began in 1989, when Orthodox Christians in the Fredericksburg area came together to establish a local parish. The community celebrated its first Divine Liturgy on April 9, 1989, at St. George’s Episcopal Church and later worshiped in a rented building in Stafford.

The parish received its ecclesiastical charter in 1991 and purchased land for a permanent church the following year. After years of growth and work by the community, the present church was completed in March 2000, with the first Divine Liturgy celebrated there on March 12, 2000.

Our parish is dedicated to the Nativity of the Theotokos, the birth of the Mother of God, whose feast is celebrated on September 8. Today, Nativity continues its mission of serving the Orthodox Christian community of the Fredericksburg area and welcoming those seeking a home in the Orthodox Church.
