Friends of the Poor
The Greek Orthodox Ladies Philoptochos Society is the philanthropic society of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, dedicated to serving those in need and expressing the love of Christ through works of mercy and charity.
Nativity of the Theotokos is home to Philoptochos Chapter #1087, “Friends of the Poor”. Through our chapter, the women of our parish join together in Christian service, fellowship, and support of philanthropic efforts locally, regionally and nationally.

Our mission
The name Philoptochos means “friend of the poor”.
Its mission includes helping the poor, the hungry, the aged, the sick, the unemployed, the orphaned, the imprisoned, the widowed, people with disabilities, victims of disasters, and others in need.
Through this work Philoptochos offers compassionate assistance in Christ’s name, and advances the charitable ministry of the Greek Orthodox Church. Members support charitable efforts in the local community as well as initiatives of the Metropolis and of the National Philoptochos Society.
Christian service and fellowship
Philoptochos gives the women of the parish opportunities to put their Orthodox Christian faith into action through service to others.
That work takes many forms. Members offer their time, talents, resources and care in response to the needs of the parish and the wider community, and build relationships with one another through a shared life of service.
At the heart of this ministry is a simple calling: to see our neighbour in need, and to respond with Christian love.
Our Philoptochos leadership
Nativity’s chapter is led by women of our parish who coordinate its philanthropic work, membership and activities. These are the chapter’s officers and board — not its whole membership. Like the Parish Council, they are parishioners rather than staff.

Become a member
All Orthodox Christian women of our parish are invited to become members of Nativity of the Theotokos Ladies Philoptochos, Chapter #1087. Whether you are new to the parish or have been part of the Nativity for many years, we invite you to take part in the philanthropic work and fellowship of our chapter.
Men are also welcome to support and take part in our philanthropic efforts as associate members.
There are many ways to contribute, and every member can offer her time and talents according to her abilities and circumstances.
